Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about our roofing, siding, and construction services.

How often should I have my roof inspected?

We recommend having your roof professionally inspected at least once a year — ideally in the spring after winter weather and before storm season. If you've experienced a major hail or wind event, schedule an inspection within 30 days. Early detection of minor damage can prevent thousands of dollars in interior water damage.

How long does a roof replacement take?

Most residential roof replacements are completed in one to two days. Larger homes, complex roof geometries, or premium materials like slate or cedar shake may take three to five days. We provide a project timeline before work begins and keep you updated throughout. Weather delays are the most common cause of schedule changes.

What are the signs that I need a new roof?

Key warning signs include: missing, cracked, or curling shingles; granules accumulating in your gutters; daylight visible through attic boards; water stains on ceilings or walls; sagging roof deck areas; and roofs over 20 years old with multiple past repairs. If you notice any of these, contact us for a free inspection before the issue worsens.

Can you help with insurance claims for roof damage?

Yes — insurance claim support is one of our specialties. We document all storm damage with photos and detailed reports, coordinate directly with your adjuster, and advocate for full replacement coverage when warranted. We also handle supplement claims if the initial payout doesn't cover the full scope of work. You pay your deductible; we handle the rest.

How do I know if my roof has hail damage?

Hail damage isn't always visible from the ground. Signs include dented gutters and downspouts, bruised or pockmarked shingles, damaged window screens, and dents on A/C units. Because insurance claims are time-sensitive — typically requiring filing within one year of the storm — we recommend scheduling a free inspection after any significant hail event, even if you don't see obvious damage.

What warranties do you offer on roofing work?

As a GAF Master Elite certified contractor — a designation held by only 3% of roofers nationwide — we offer GAF's Golden Pledge warranty, which covers materials for up to 50 years and workmanship for 25 years. We also provide our own labor warranty on all installations. Warranty terms vary by product and are provided in writing before any project begins.

Is Culture Construction veteran-owned?

Yes. Culture Construction is proudly veteran-owned and operated. Our military background shapes how we run every project — with discipline, accountability, and a commitment to doing the job right the first time. We hold ourselves to the same standards of integrity in business that we did in service.

Should I repair or replace my roof?

The decision depends on the roof's age, the extent of damage, and cost-effectiveness. If your roof is under 15 years old and damage is isolated to a small area, repair is often the right call. If it's over 20 years old, has widespread damage, or has been repaired multiple times, replacement typically provides better long-term value. We'll give you an honest assessment — we never push replacement when a repair will do.

What makes James Hardie siding different from vinyl?

James Hardie fiber cement siding outperforms vinyl in nearly every category: it resists impact, fire, moisture, and insects far better than vinyl; it holds paint longer; and it doesn't warp, crack, or fade in extreme temperatures. As a James Hardie Elite Preferred contractor, we're certified to install it correctly and back the installation with manufacturer warranty coverage.

What is your storm restoration process?

Our process: (1) Free inspection within 24–48 hours of your call; (2) Detailed damage documentation for your insurance claim; (3) Insurance adjuster meeting — we attend on your behalf when possible; (4) Material selection and project scheduling once the claim is approved; (5) Installation by our certified crews; (6) Final walkthrough and cleanup. We handle the entire process so you don't have to.

What states does Culture Construction serve?

We currently serve Illinois (our headquarters), Indiana, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Ohio. Within each state we work across multiple cities and counties — from the Chicago suburbs to Charleston, WV. If you're unsure whether we cover your area, call us at (234) CULTURE or submit a free estimate request and we'll confirm availability.

What does GAF Master Elite certification mean?

GAF Master Elite is the highest contractor certification level awarded by GAF, North America's largest roofing manufacturer. Only 3% of roofing contractors qualify. Requirements include maintaining proper licensing and insurance, a strong reputation for quality and service, and ongoing training. The certification allows us to offer GAF's best warranties, including the Golden Pledge — which most contractors cannot provide.

How does your free estimate process work?

Submit a request online or call (234) CULTURE. We'll schedule a time for one of our project consultants to visit your property, inspect the roof or siding, and provide a written estimate — typically within 24 to 48 hours of your request. There's no obligation, and we'll walk you through all options and pricing before any work begins.

Do you handle commercial and industrial roofing?

Yes. We install and repair TPO, EPDM, PVC, modified bitumen, metal, and built-up roofing systems for commercial and industrial properties. Our commercial division handles everything from retail strip centers and office buildings to warehouses and manufacturing facilities. We work with property managers, building owners, and general contractors.

How can I extend the life of my roof?

Annual professional inspections catch problems early. Keep gutters clear to prevent water backup under shingles. Trim overhanging branches to reduce debris and shade (which traps moisture). Address minor repairs immediately — small leaks become large ones fast. Ensure proper attic ventilation, which prevents premature shingle deterioration from heat buildup.

How do I verify a roofing contractor's credentials?

Check for state licensing (required in IL, IN, WI, WV, and OH), general liability insurance, and workers' compensation coverage. Ask for a copy of both certificates. Verify manufacturer certifications directly on the manufacturer's website. Read verified reviews on Google and BBB. Be cautious of contractors who appear only after storms, demand large upfront payments, or can't provide written contracts.

What payment options do you offer?

We accept check, ACH bank transfer, and major credit cards. For insurance jobs, we typically collect your deductible at the start of work and the insurance settlement upon completion. For non-insurance projects, we offer flexible payment schedules based on project milestones. Financing options may be available — ask your project consultant for details.

Do you offer emergency roof repair?

Yes. We provide 24-hour emergency response for active leaks and storm damage. Emergency services include temporary tarping to prevent further interior damage while we assess the full scope of repairs needed. Don't wait on an active leak — water damage compounds quickly. Call (234) CULTURE or submit an emergency request online.

Why are gutters important and when should I replace them?

Gutters direct water away from your foundation, siding, and landscaping. Failing gutters cause basement flooding, siding rot, foundation erosion, and fascia damage — all far more expensive to fix than the gutters themselves. Signs it's time to replace: visible sagging, pulling away from the fascia, cracks or rust, water pooling near the foundation, or gutters over 20 years old. We install seamless gutters and gutter guard systems.

Can new siding improve my home's energy efficiency?

Yes — especially when paired with proper insulation. Modern fiber cement and insulated vinyl siding add a layer of thermal protection that reduces heat transfer through exterior walls. This can meaningfully lower heating and cooling costs, particularly in older homes with minimal wall insulation. James Hardie's HardieWrap moisture barrier also prevents drafts while managing moisture.
