What James Hardie Elite Preferred Contractor Means

James Hardie Elite Preferred is the highest certification tier awarded by James Hardie, the #1 brand of fiber cement siding in North America. To qualify and maintain Elite Preferred status, Culture Construction must complete advanced product training, demonstrate a proven track record of quality installations, maintain proper licensing and insurance, and meet customer satisfaction benchmarks set by James Hardie. Elite Preferred Contractors have access to James Hardie's strongest warranty programs — including the 30-year non-prorated warranty on products and the 25-year finish warranty on ColorPlus Technology — that other contractors cannot offer.

James Hardie Products We Install

We install the complete James Hardie product line, matched to your home's architectural style and Chicago-area climate requirements.

  • HardiePanel Vertical Siding — board-and-batten and vertical applications for modern and craftsman styles
  • HardieTrim — matching trim boards, corner boards, and fascia for complete exterior systems
  • HardieSoffit — vented and non-vented soffit panels for complete exterior finishing
  • HardieWrap — moisture barrier and weather-resistant barrier for proper installation

Why Fiber Cement Outperforms Vinyl in the Chicago Climate

Chicago-area homes face one of the most demanding climates for exterior siding in the country — freeze-thaw cycles, high humidity, summer heat, and significant hail and wind exposure. James Hardie fiber cement is engineered specifically for this climate (HZ5 zone). It does not expand and contract with temperature swings the way vinyl does, which means caulk joints and paint adhesion remain intact over time. It is non-combustible, termite-resistant, and impervious to moisture damage. James Hardie products carry a Wildfire Defense System rating — relevant as wildfire smoke events become more frequent in the Midwest. Vinyl siding melts, warps, and cracks under these conditions. Fiber cement does not.

Cedar Replacement on Chicago's North Shore

Cedar shake siding is common on North Shore and western suburb homes built between 1950 and 1990 — Winnetka, Glencoe, Kenilworth, Wilmette, Hinsdale, Barrington Hills, and similar communities. Cedar requires significant maintenance: staining every 3–5 years, periodic board replacement as sections rot or split, and vulnerability to woodpecker damage and insect infiltration. James Hardie HardieShingle is the most authentic cedar replacement available — it replicates the look and profile of cedar shake at a fraction of the long-term maintenance cost. As an Elite Preferred Contractor, we have experience matching existing cedar profiles on historic and architecturally significant homes throughout the North Shore.

ColorPlus Technology

James Hardie ColorPlus Technology is a factory-applied, multi-coat finish that is baked onto the fiber cement at the manufacturing facility — not painted on-site. This process creates a harder, more durable finish than field-applied paint and is backed by James Hardie's 15-year limited fade and chip warranty. ColorPlus is available in over 700 colors and eliminates the need to repaint your siding for 15+ years. For high-end homes in communities like Hinsdale, Oak Brook, Burr Ridge, and Barrington Hills where color consistency and curb appeal are significant considerations, ColorPlus is the standard we recommend.

Our Installation Process

James Hardie requires Elite Preferred installation to follow specific procedures that protect the warranty and ensure long-term performance.

  • Full tear-off of existing siding and inspection of sheathing and moisture barrier
  • HardieWrap installation where required for moisture management
  • Proper clearances from grade, roofline, and trim per James Hardie installation specifications
  • Stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanized fasteners — no corrosive nails that bleed through finished surface
  • Factory-painted or field-primed cuts sealed per James Hardie requirements
  • Final inspection and documentation for warranty registration

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean to be a James Hardie Elite Preferred Contractor?

Elite Preferred Contractor is the highest tier in the James Hardie contractor program. It certifies that our crews are factory-trained in proper fiber cement installation techniques and that we meet strict quality and customer satisfaction standards. This status gives homeowners access to enhanced warranty coverage.

How does James Hardie fiber cement compare to vinyl siding?

James Hardie fiber cement is more durable, non-combustible, termite-proof, and resistant to moisture damage. It holds its color longer with ColorPlus Technology (15+ year color warranty) and adds more resale value. Vinyl is a budget-friendly option but does not match fiber cement on longevity or fire resistance.

What James Hardie products are available for Chicago-area homes?

James Hardie offers HardiePlank lap siding, HardieShingle panels, HardiePanel vertical siding, and HardieTrim boards — all engineered for HZ5 climate zone performance (freeze-thaw cycles, humidity, and temperature extremes common in the Midwest). ColorPlus factory-finished colors eliminate the need for on-site painting.
