This 1960s ranch-style home had endured years of patching and overlay repairs. After a significant hail event caused widespread granule loss and shingle cracking, the homeowner's insurance carrier approved a full replacement. Culture Construction managed the project from initial inspection through final closeout.
The Challenge
The existing roof had two layers of shingles — the original three-tab and a second overlay installed roughly 15 years ago. Both layers needed to be stripped to the decking before new materials could be installed. Additionally, the home's original ventilation setup was inadequate by current building code standards, requiring upgrades as part of the scope.
Issues identified during inspection:
- Two layers of aged shingles with widespread hail bruising
- Deteriorated felt underlayment with multiple moisture intrusion points
- Insufficient attic ventilation (no ridge vent, only two static vents)
- Damaged drip edge and rusted pipe boots
The Solution
Our team executed a complete tear-off, decking inspection, and reroofing system install over three working days:
Day 1 — Tear-Off and Decking Inspection
- Removed both shingle layers and old felt underlayment
- Inspected all decking panels for rot or moisture damage
- Replaced four damaged OSB panels
- Installed new synthetic underlayment across the entire roof deck
Day 2 — System Installation
- Installed new aluminum drip edge on all eaves and rakes
- Applied ice and water shield in all valleys and along eaves (6-foot coverage)

- Replaced all pipe boots and added new galvanized step flashing at wall transitions
Day 3 — Ridge Ventilation and Closeout
- Cut and installed continuous ridge vent for code-compliant attic ventilation
- Installed ridge cap shingles

- Conducted homeowner walkthrough and sign-off
