Roofing, Siding & Remodeling in Keller, TX

Keller has grown fast. It went from about 4,000 residents in 1980 to more than 45,000 by 2020, so many homes here are now reaching the age when a roof, siding or kitchen needs replacing. Keller also sits in one of the most hail-exposed parts of Tarrant County. Culture Construction & Consulting is a veteran-owned roofing, siding and remodeling contractor serving Keller from our Dallas–Fort Worth office. We help homeowners in Hidden Lakes, Old Town Keller, Ranch Country Estates and neighborhoods across ZIP 76248 plan exterior and interior projects that fit their homes and their HOA rules.

Services we offer in Keller

  • Residential roofing. We do full roof replacements and repairs with architectural and impact-rated asphalt shingles from manufacturers we're certified with, including GAF and CertainTeed.
  • James Hardie fiber cement siding. It's a durable, low-maintenance option for homes that pair siding with brick or stone, and Culture is a James Hardie Elite Preferred contractor.
  • DaVinci synthetic slate and shake. This composite roofing has the look of slate or cedar, and we're a DaVinci Masterpiece contractor.
  • Standing-seam metal roofing. It's an option for full roofs, porches and accent areas.
  • Storm restoration. After hail or wind, we inspect the roof, siding and gutters and document damage with photos. Then we provide a written estimate. If you ask, we'll meet your insurance adjuster at the property.
  • Gutters. Replacements sized for heavy North Texas downpours.
  • Design & Build. Our Design & Build division handles kitchen remodels, bathroom remodels and home additions.

Roofing considerations for Keller homes

Keller's population jumped from 4,156 in 1980 to 13,683 in 1990 and 27,345 in 2000, then kept climbing. A large share of local homes went up during those decades. A roof installed in the 1990s or early 2000s may already have been replaced once, especially after a major hail event.

Many Keller subdivisions pair brick or stone with smaller areas of siding on gables, dormers and second-story walls. Those siding sections often take the most weather. Replacing them with James Hardie fiber cement is a practical upgrade that keeps the masonry look intact.

Old Town Keller is different. The city's Old Town Keller Overlay District aims for an early-1900s small-town Texas character, and the code describes the neighborhood cottages there as having steeply pitched roofs. Steeper roofs are a good match for synthetic slate, shake or standing-seam metal.

Permits, HOAs and Old Town Keller rules

Permits. Keller's Building Services office, part of Community Development at Keller Town Hall on Bear Creek Parkway, issues building permits. The city advises that contractors should obtain permits. It also notes that a project isn't legally complete until it passes final inspection. Permit guides report that a full roof tear-off and replacement needs a building permit in Keller. Small repairs, like replacing a few shingles, generally don't. Requirements can change, so confirm with Building Services before work starts.

HOAs. Much of Keller is HOA-governed, including the many sections of Hidden Lakes. Most associations want to approve roof and siding colors and materials before work starts, so we'll help you put together product specs and color samples for your architectural review submission. Texas law also helps here. Under Texas Property Code §202.011, an HOA can't prohibit shingles designed to be wind and hail resistant, more energy efficient or solar-generating, as long as they resemble the shingles allowed in your subdivision, are more durable and of equal or better quality, and match the look of the surrounding homes. You'll usually still need to submit for approval.

Old Town Keller. Keller doesn't have a historic preservation commission or certificate-of-appropriateness process. The Old Town Keller Overlay does set design standards, though. Main Street buildings are expected to use brick, stone, stucco or concrete in earth tones. New homes in the Neighborhood Subdistrict are expected to reflect early-1900s residential style. If your home or project is inside the overlay, we'll check with the city before you choose materials.

Keller's storm history

Hail is a real part of owning a home in Keller. On April 28, 2021, a storm with large hail tore across northern Tarrant County. FOX 4 reported that Keller "got the brunt of the storm," and the National Weather Service received reports of hail in Keller as large as 3.25 inches, damaging roofs, windows and vehicles. On May 27, 2024, another round of storms produced dozens of hail reports within about 10 miles of Keller. They included reports of hail around 1.25 inches near Keller and 2 inches or larger in neighboring Colleyville, Hurst and Bedford.

Not every storm damages a roof. Even so, after a significant hail event it's worth having a roofer look before small problems become leaks. We'll inspect your roof and exterior and photograph anything we find. You'll get a clear written estimate. The decision about whether to file a claim is yours and your insurer's. We don't act as your adjuster, but we're glad to meet the adjuster on site if you ask.

Keller roofing FAQ

Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Keller? Plan on it. Permit guides report that a full tear-off and replacement needs a building permit from the City of Keller's Building Services office, while minor repairs like patching or replacing a few shingles generally don't. Requirements can change, so confirm with Building Services before work starts.

Can my HOA stop me from installing impact-resistant shingles? Generally, no. Texas Property Code §202.011 bars HOAs from prohibiting shingles designed to be wind and hail resistant, energy efficient or solar-generating. The shingles must resemble those allowed in your subdivision, be more durable and of equal or better quality, and match the surrounding homes.

Does Keller get a lot of hail? Keller sits in an active hail area. The April 28, 2021 storm brought reports of hail up to 3.25 inches in Keller. Storms on May 27, 2024 produced many hail reports in nearby cities.

Will an impact-resistant roof lower my insurance? It might. The Texas Department of Insurance notes that some insurers give discounts for roofs built with wind- and hail-resistant materials. Ask your agent what qualifies under your policy. After you replace your roof, tell your insurer so it can update the roof's age on your policy.
