Roofing, Siding and Remodeling in Southlake, TX
Southlake grew fast once sewer service arrived around 1990. Southridge Lakes, Timarron and the subdivisions that followed filled with large homes on half-acre-and-up lots. Many of those houses are still on their first or second roof, and some kitchens and baths haven't changed since the 1990s. Culture Construction is a veteran-owned roofing, siding, storm restoration and design-build contractor with a Dallas–Fort Worth office at 4501 Merlot Ave, Suite 200, Grapevine, TX 76051. We work with Southlake homeowners on everything from a hail inspection to a full primary-bath remodel.
What we do in Southlake
Roofing. We handle full replacements and repairs on architectural asphalt shingles (we're a GAF Master Elite and CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster contractor), DaVinci synthetic slate and shake, and standing-seam metal. Synthetic slate is a common pick on brick-and-stone homes, where homeowners want a heavier, more traditional look without the weight of natural slate.
James Hardie siding. Many Southlake homes are mostly masonry, so siding work often means gables, dormers, chimney chases, bay windows and rear elevations rather than a full wrap. As a James Hardie Elite Preferred contractor, we install fiber cement that can be painted to sit cleanly next to existing brick and stone.
Storm restoration and gutters. After hail, we inspect the roof, gutters, siding and screens. We document damage with dated photos and give you a written estimate. If you ask us to, we'll meet your insurance adjuster on site. We don't act as your adjuster or negotiate your claim, which Texas law doesn't allow contractors to do. We also replace and upgrade gutters.
Design & Build: kitchens, baths and additions. Our Design & Build team remodels kitchens and bathrooms and builds home additions. In a city where many homes were built 25–35 years ago, that often means opening up a closed 1990s kitchen, updating a primary bath, or adding space without giving up the yard.
Roofing considerations for Southlake homes
Age of the roof. Much of Southlake was built in the 1990s and early 2000s, so a lot of original roofs have reached the end of their service life. If yours was installed with the house, or you don't know when it was last replaced, an inspection is worth scheduling before the spring storm season.
Impact resistance. North Texas hail is the main thing wearing down Southlake roofs (see storm history below). Class 4 impact-rated shingles, synthetic slate and metal are all worth discussing on a replacement.
Big, complex rooflines. Homes in neighborhoods like Timarron, Carillon, Shady Oaks and Clariden Ranch often have steep pitches, multiple hips and valleys, turrets and large attic spaces. That changes ventilation planning, flashing details and how the crew protects landscaping during tear-off.
Permits and HOA rules in Southlake
City permit. The City of Southlake Building Inspections Division requires a permit to replace roofing materials or roof structure, and exterior siding falls under its remodel permit category. Under the city's roof replacement guidance:
- The permit is filed online.
- The permit card must be posted where it can be seen from the road.
- The contractor must be registered with the city.
- The job ends with a final inspection, either by photo or in person.
The photo option includes overall roof shots from the ground plus photos of vent terminations and the Type B appliance vents in the attic. If you choose an in-person inspection, someone has to be home so the inspector can check the attic.
HOA approval. Southlake has many HOAs, and several neighborhoods have strict architectural guidelines. The city reminds homeowners to check covenants and deed restrictions as well as permits. Most HOAs want to approve roofing material and color before work starts. We can put together the product specs and color samples your architectural committee asks for.
Impact-resistant shingles and your HOA. Texas Property Code §202.011 limits an HOA's ability to prohibit wind- and hail-resistant shingles. The shingles still need to resemble what's allowed in the subdivision, be of equal or better quality, and match the look of surrounding homes, so you'll usually still submit for approval.
Recent hail near Southlake
Hail hits this part of Tarrant County most years. These are point reports from the NOAA Storm Prediction Center:
- June 11, 2023: trained spotters reported 2.5-inch hail in Flower Mound and 3-inch hail near Bartonville, just north of town.
- May 27, 2024: a widespread event brought hail up to 2.75 inches in Euless and Hurst and 1.75 inches in Colleyville.
- April 28, 2026: half-dollar-size (1.25-inch) hail was reported in Southlake itself.
- Later in 2026: 1-inch hail fell in Grapevine on May 23 and June 2.
A report nearby doesn't mean your roof was damaged. But if your home was in the path, have it inspected and get the findings documented with photos.

Southlake roofing FAQ
Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Southlake? Yes. The City of Southlake requires a building permit for roof replacement. The contractor must be registered with the city, the permit card has to be visible from the street, and the job closes out with a final inspection by photo or in person. Exterior siding also needs a permit.
Can my HOA stop me from installing impact-resistant (Class 4) shingles? Generally not, if the shingles meet the conditions in Texas Property Code §202.011. They must resemble the shingles allowed in your subdivision, be at least equal in quality, and match the look of nearby homes. Most HOAs still require you to submit the product and color for approval, so plan for that step.
Should a 20-year-old roof be replaced? Not automatically. Condition matters more than age. We look at granule loss, hail bruising, lifted or brittle shingles, flashing and ventilation. A roof that has been through several hail seasons may need replacing sooner; a well-kept one may have life left. An inspection gives you a clear answer either way.
How do I vet a roofer after a hailstorm, especially one from out of town? The city's own advice is to check references and Better Business Bureau records, be careful with out-of-area roofers, and be wary of anyone who wants payment up front. Also confirm the contractor is registered with Southlake and will pull the permit.
